What is the Purpose of Office Window Film?

There are a myriad of reasons why a business would decide to go with window film. The most basic one is the decoration. Office spaces are notoriously difficult to decorate. You don’t want to pick too strong a style, since a variety of different people will be using the space and you would want it to stay professional. At the same time, these spaces are often too large to be sparsely decorated, since this can make the office look boring and bland.

Another reason is privacy. Frosted or etched window films can create visibility barriers between glass window offices or cubicles while allowing natural light to enter into the room. 

A secondary but still important office benefit is that window film minimizes the need for frequent cleaning. Its antibacterial coating reduces fingerprints inherent on standard solid glass surfaces.

Can You See Through Window Film?

Well, the answer to this question is, it depends on the film selection.  Generally speaking, in most office applications, the film selected will provide limited visibility, just enough to give privacy without a complete frosting block. In most cases, the goal of decorative film is to be decorative, with a subtle hint of privacy, without appearing totally obtrusive.

If additional privacy is required, the window film dealer has a variety of frosted and matte patterns to address those needs. 

Do Window Films Reduce Heat?

Decorative window films are generally used on inside glass walls and partitions so heat reduction is not a factor. If you’re looking to reduce the heat in your office, you’ll want to put a film on your exterior windows.

Exterior window films are designed to help block the heat and sun that comes from outside. They have additional benefits that can also address sun damage and daylight redirecting, but we’ll cover this in our next article.

Can Window Film Damage Windows?

Film shouldn’t cause any damage to the windows, as long as it’s being installed by professionals. In fact, these films come with a five-year guaranteed warranty against cracking, creasing, peeling, and delamination. They’ll last years beyond the warranty period if one follows the proper cleaning instructions.  

That means you can rest easy that the film won’t cause damage to your windows!

How Long Does Window Film Last?

Window film can last anywhere from 15-20 years, though ultimately its lifespan will depend on where it’s placed and how it’s maintained. Luckily, maintenance is simple, as this film requires less maintenance than normal film.

That said, one of the biggest advantages of 3M’s window film is its versatility and warranty. While it can last for more than 15 years, it’s also easily removable.  So when you’re ready for a new look, window film can be removed easily and inexpensively.
